Emotional ‘Ozzy: No Escape From Now’ Documentary About Final Years Sets October Air Date: ‘I Had a Great Life’

Published

The documentary Ozzy: No Escape From Now was never intended to be a look back at Ozzy Osbourne‘s life. But now, the definitive chronicle of the heavy metal icon’s final six years will tell the story of those difficult times via interviews with friends and family, including the prep for what would be Ozzy’s final show, the July 5 all-star Back to the Beginning blow-out in his home town of Birmingham, England.

The movie directed by BAFTA Award-winner Tania Alexander will premiere on Paramount+ on Oct. 7 in the U.S. and internationally (excluding Japan). The project was produced in collaboration with the Osbourne family, with Ozzy and wife/manager Sharon — as well as their children, Aimee, Jack and Kelly — opening up about the late-night fall Ozzy suffered in Feb. 2019 that led to the rocker canceling his planned two-and-a-half-year farewell tour.

“The thing about getting older, you know, I used to take pills for fun,” Ozzy says in the new two-minute trailer for the doc (see below). “Now I take them just to stay alive.” The couple’s eldest daughter Aimee, 42 — who has typically eschewed publicity and participation in the family’s TV and film ventures — says in the film that the fall was devastating for her dad.

“He was in hospital for weeks. To fall like that and not be able to bounce back like he had in the past, and then having to cancel the tour – that was his biggest heartbreak,” she says. The film details the series of corrective surgeries Ozzy endured following the accident, as well as the cascade of health issues he suffered after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and the mental and physical impact of the chronic pain on the music he made in the years after.

The trailer opens with Sharon saying that inveterate road dog Ozzy’s one big regret was that he “never really said goodbye his fans” after his series of health issues. Kelly talks about the fall that resulted in Ozzy breaking his “f–king neck,” with Jack adding that his dad came out of the surgery “far worse.” The subsequent cancellation of the planned 2019 and 2023 No More Tours II tour was “his biggest heartbreak” Aimee says.

Kelly describes taking Ozzy to the studio every day, where the “magic would begin” as he worked on what would be his final two solo records, 2020’s Ordinary Man and 2022’s Patient Number 9. Fans will see Ozzy recording his vocals from a red throne, chatting in the studio with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt, with the latter asking him how he was able to tap into being a “psychopath, mental patient” so easily.

“I had a lot of practice,” Ozzy says to both mens’ delight as he calls making music again “the best medicine I ever had. I’m not good at being sick. I belong up there.” At one point, Sharon asks Ozzy what he thinks of having one big, send-off finale show, to which he says, “If I’m going to be go there, I want to be the old Ozzy.”

The movie also has Ozzy revealing that his collaboration with Post Malone on the song “Take What You Want” — which was instigated by Kelly and Watt — helped to kick-start what would turn out to be the final, rousing chapter of his music life. “It got me out of the blues. It helped me. That was the best medicine I ever had at that point,” Ozzy says in the movie of recording the song from Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding album.

In addition to the Osbourne family, the film will feature interviews with Ozzy’s Sabbath and solo band members guitarists Tony Iommi and Zakk Wylde, as well as the Chili Peppers’ Smith, Rage Agains the Machine’s Tom Morello, Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan, Metallica singer/guitarist James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo, Billy Idol, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, Tool’s Maynard James Keenan and many more.

“If my life’s coming to an end, I really can’t complain,” Ozzy says at the end of the trailer. “I had a great life.”

“Do you think people would be surprised that you listened to Taylor Swift?” Khloé Kardashian asked.

“I think I’ve said it,” Kim responded. “I have her, like, some of her older songs in my playlist. I’ve always thought she’s like a super-talented, great artist.”

The history between Kim, her ex-husband Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Swift is, of course, well-documented, beginning with the 2009 VMAs incident that started a chain of events, which ultimately led to Kim K. releasing an edited phone call in 2016 making Swift out to be a liar regarding Ye’s song “Famous.” In 2020, the full version of the call leaked, proving Swift’s innocence, but the damage had been done.

“Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me,” Swift told TIME in 2023 of that period in her life. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before.”

The superstar also directly called out Kardashian in that interview. “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” adding that she “didn’t trust anyone anymore.”

“I went down really, really hard,” she said.

Swift would then release the track “thanK you aIMee,” in April of 2024 on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which many took to be a swipe at Kardashian, due to the lyrics as well as the irregular capitalization of the title, which spells out “Kim.” Later, she released a live version that she changed the title to “thank You aimEe,” highlighting YE.

Spotify Fires Back at ‘Payola’ Lawsuit Over Discovery Mode, Says Listeners Waived the Right to Sue

Spotify is firing back for the first time at a class action lawsuit claiming its Discovery Mode is a “modern form of payola,” arguing that the allegations are false — and that its users have waived the right to sue anyhow.

In court filings Tuesday (Jan. 20), Spotify asked a judge to essentially end a case filed last fall by Genevieve Capolongo, who says the company’s recommendation tools are a “deceptive pay-for-play” program that allows labels and artists to secretly pay to promote their music.

The Spotify app is displayed on a smartphone screen.

Spotify says the lawsuit fails to actually accuse the company of doing anything misleading, meaning the claims are legally invalid. But more importantly, it says all its users have signed binding arbitration agreements that bar them from suing in the first place.

“When plaintiff signed up for Spotify’s streaming service and throughout her relationship with Spotify, plaintiff agreed to the Spotify terms of use,” the company stated in the filings. “The arbitration agreement expressly forecloses ‘jury trials or any other court proceedings.”

Capolongo’s case is one of two recent lawsuits accusing Spotify of allowing its platform to be manipulated. Another case, filed by a rapper named RBX, claims that the streaming giant allowed “billions of fraudulent streams” that boosted the performance numbers of major stars like Drake.

In her November complaint, Capolongo claimed that she and other users believe that Spotify’s suggestions are based on listening tastes, when in reality the company has chosen to “secretly sell those recommendations to the highest bidder.”

At the time, a spokesperson for Spotify called the accusations “nonsense,” claiming the lawsuit was “riddled with misunderstandings and inaccuracies” about Discovery Mode: “It doesn’t buy plays, it doesn’t affect editorial playlists, and it’s clearly disclosed in the app and on our website.”

In Tuesday’s filing, Spotify echoed those critiques, claiming Capolongo’s attorneys had failed to show “any materially misleading practice, advertisement, or statement” by the company. “Tellingly, Plaintiff also admits that she continues to use and pay for the Spotify service despite being fully informed of the alleged facts that underpin her claims.”

But the core message of Spotify’s response was that the case must be handled via private arbitration — a common tactic by many large companies that require users to sign terms of service. Live Nation is currently litigating a major lawsuit over its use of such waivers.

“Plaintiff’s claims fall squarely within the scope of the arbitration agreement,” Spotify wrote, adding that she had been repeatedly advised of the agreement via emails.

Pharrell Premieres Unreleased Music From Pusha T, A$AP Rocky & Quavo During Paris Fashion Week Show

Pharrell Williams debuted a new collection at Louis Vuitton’s Fall-Winter 2026 Men’s show on Tuesday (Jan. 20), and played some unreleased heat fusing with the show’s soundtrack, which saw him premiere cuts from A$AP Rocky, Quavo, Jackson Wang, Pusha T and John Legend.

In his role as men’s creative director, Pharrell curated and produced the show, which saw models strutting through a grassy backyard runway around a model of an open floor plan glass house.

Legend’s uplifting “Pray for Ya” collab with P kicked off the show, which was followed by a futuristic pop track from Chinese rapper Jackson Wang featuring a smoky guest appearance from Pusha T, who’s paying homage to The Notorious B.I.G. with his swaggering flow.

A$AP Rocky teams up with Pharrell for the bouncy “Disturbing the P,” continuing to build off his momentum from Don’t Be Dumb. His verse even includes a funny jab at Eminem’s 8 Mile rap battle opponent, Papa Doc.

After seeing the success of Clipse and Pharrell’s Let God Sort Em Out reunion, Quavo wants to follow suit. Huncho has been flying out to visit Skateboard P at the LV headquarters to collaborate on his next solo album.

Pharrell debuted a horn-tinged cut titled “Hit-A-Lik” from Quavo during the show, which feels reminiscent of the Migos’ “Stir Fry” anthem with P. “At the bando, go commando/ In the hood, n—a, I’m the landlord,” Huncho raps. “Gotta do it for the trench, because we all came from nothing.”

It was quite the comeback year for Pharrell and Clipse in 2025, whose Let God Sort Em Out album earned five Grammy nominations, including a nod for album of the year.
