Myklegard leaving federal deputy CIO role

Published

on

Drew Myklegard, the deputy federal chief information officer, is leaving his role after almost four years. His last day is Sept. 22.

Federal News Network has learned Myklegard told staff today that he will take a position in the private sector. He didn’t say where he was going.

Drew Myklegard is departing after spending more than three years as the deputy federal chief information officer at OMB.

It’s also unclear who will take over for him at OMB, even on an acting basis.

Myklegard joined the Office of Management and Budget in January 2022, replacing Maria Roat.

Before joining OMB, Myklegard worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs for more than eight years. At VA, he served in several technology executive roles, including executive director for product engineering, as a senior advisor to the CIO and the director of platform and IT innovation in the agency’s innovation center. He also is a member of the Army reserves.

During his time as deputy federal CIO, Myklegard focused a lot of his efforts around IT modernization, specifically on cloud computing.

He helped oversee the effort to update and modernize the cloud security program known as FedRAMP. In a July 2024 interview, Myklegard said the new memo further cements the pivot FedRAMP specifically and agency cloud use over the last few years toward a software-as-a-service (SaaS) approach.

He is a member of the Technology Modernization Fund Board and is on the executive committee on the Chief Data Officer’s Council.

Emails to OMB seeking comment on Myklegard’s decision to leave were not returned.

A CNN crew reporting on Israeli settlements in the West Bank in Palestine was detained by IDF soldiers on Friday.

The reporters say they were put in a chokehold after they and several Palestinian residents were approached by armed troops.

According to the Jerusalem Post,

The CNN team was interviewing Palestinian residents of the West Bank town of Tayasir after settlers established an outpost in the town and violently attacked residents.

While conducting interviews on camera, IDF soldiers ordered the team and the Palestinians to stop speaking and aimed their weapons at the group, according to the CNN reporters present.

Video from the incident shows the reporters being approached and detained.

The full report from CNN features the outposts established by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and stories of the violent attacks from Palestinian residents.

The clip further shows CNN Jerusalem correspondent Jeremy Diamond speaking with IDF soldiers, one of whom tells him, “We are here because this is our place… The land is ours.” When asked if all of the West Bank belongs to Israelis, the soldier replies, “Of course, and not just for the soldiers, for the jews.”

Another soldier details the alleged murder of an 18-year-old Israeli settler by a Palestinian, saying they are exacting revenge against the residents in the West Bank.

The soldier, Meir, later tells  Diamond that while the settlement in Tayasir is not legal, “it will be… slowly.” He agrees that it will be legal thanks to the IDF and his presence, saying, “Of course … I help my people.”

“Meir is describing the settler playbook, and the role Israeli soldiers often play in propping it up,” Diamond says in his report. “The Israeli military did not respond to CNN’s questions about soldiers’ conduct in the West Bank, including our detention. Amid the war with Iran, those efforts are intensifying, with at least four outposts established this week alone, land often taken with the blood of Palestinians,” he continues.

The IDF did provide a statement to CNN, writing, “The actions and behavior of the soldiers in the incident are incompatible with what is expected of IDF soldiers operating in the Judea and Samaria area.”

The White House slammed a former federal prosecutor for tweeting a fake Trump Truth Social post about Tiger Woods.

Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a major rollover car crash in Jupiter, Florida, on Friday.

Authorities said Tiger Woods, 50, took a breathalyzer test and blew “triple zeros,” which means alcohol was not a factor.

Woods then refused to submit a urine test, so he was arrested and charged with a DUI.

Tiger Woods was not injured in the crash.

President Trump told reporters on the tarmac in Miami on Friday that Tiger Woods is an amazing person.

Joyce Vance, a former US Attorney who served during the Obama Administration and TDS sufferer, fell for a fake Trump Truth Social post about Tiger Woods.

In the fake post, Trump called on Governor Ron DeSantis to pardon Tiger Woods so he can “focus on The Masters and help to Make Golf Great Again!”

“We’re at war. Air travel is a mess. There are measles outbreaks. The price of gasoline is skyrocketing. So of course, the president is focused on keeping his pal out of jail,” Joyce Vance said in the caption.

The White House slammed her for posting a fake Trump quote.

“Not a real post, idiot. Joyce was a federal prosecutor for 25 years. Imagine all the cases she tried with this type of stupidity,” White House spokesman Steven Cheung said.

“Stunning that she is this dense or she has let her Trump Derangement Syndrome warp her sense of reality,” he said.

“Either way, she is a moron,” he added.
