Trump’s Iran TACO Gambit – Feint and Move and Win

When protesters were being killed in Tehran in early January 2026, President Trump threatened strikes, telling Fox News he had “put Iran on notice” and that if the regime shot at demonstrators, the U.S. would hit Iran “very hard.” The Iranian diaspora and protesters were energized. Then Trump said he had been informed the killing had stopped and that executions of arrested protesters would not take place, citing “very important sources on the other side.”

His detractors seized on the apparent stand-down, repeating the acronym TACO, Trump Always Chickens Out, which had gained prominence after his tariff reversals in 2025 and was extended to foreign policy based on claims that Trump had threatened force against adversaries 22 times but followed through on only two occasions. Senate Minority Leader Schumer publicly deployed the label, a move counterproductive enough that a coalition of more than two dozen anti-war organizations wrote him a letter urging him to delete the video and give Trump diplomatic space.

Throughout February, Trump struck a belligerent tone at the State of the Union while Iran’s negotiating delegation headed to Geneva for a third round of nuclear talks. Then, on February 28, the United States and Israel struck.

A senior Israeli official told Fox News that Khamenei had spent millions of dollars and years building an underground bunker, which he did not use on the morning of the strike. Sources familiar with the intelligence said Khamenei believed no one had the guts to strike him.

His confidence was partially the product of a deliberate Israeli-American deception plan that included messaging, signals, and public statements by Trump suggesting nothing immediate was coming. Khamenei and nearly 50 senior regime leaders were gathered at a compound in Tehran, where they were killed in under 50 seconds during the opening strike of Operation Epic Fury.

The operation relied on years of surveillance, including Tehran’s traffic camera network, which had reportedly been hacked years earlier, giving analysts real-time visibility into movement patterns around locations connected to Iran’s leadership.

Kari Bingen, CSIS Vice President for Defense and Security and Director of the Intelligence, National Security, and Technology Program, described the result as an intelligence success “particularly at the tactical and operational levels,” crediting the U.S.-Israel intelligence relationship that had already demonstrated its precision in the Hezbollah pager operation and Operation Rising Lion.

Heritage Foundation Vice President Victoria Coates said critics “were predicting the president wouldn’t act, he was being tricked by the Iranians. Absolutely not. He was getting everything in place that he needed to execute this extraordinary strike.”

Speaking at a CSIS event on March 5, 2026, Bingen said the operation represented a major intelligence achievement. She explained that it was “an intelligence success, particularly at the tactical and operational levels,” crediting Central Command, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the broader intelligence community.

She added that the United States has maintained a longstanding intelligence partnership with Israel, which possesses significant capability against Iran and its proxy forces. She noted that the partnership had already demonstrated its effectiveness in the Hezbollah pager operation and Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iranian military leadership and command-and-control structures with precision.

The TACO narrative, amplified by media and political critics, appears to have functioned as operational cover. Iran’s leadership was lulled into a false sense of security because they, like Trump’s domestic critics, believed he would not follow through. That miscalculation cost Khamenei and nearly 50 senior regime figures their lives in the opening seconds of the war.

The defense minister, army chief of staff, and IRGC commander-in-chief were killed in a separate strike on a defense council meeting. The Supreme National Security Council headquarters was destroyed. Also killed in the opening salvo were top security adviser Ali Shamkhani and IRGC commander-in-chief Mohammad Pakpour.

On March 3, U.S.-Israeli strikes hit the Assembly of Experts’ offices in Qom during an emergency session convened to select a new Supreme Leader. Under IRGC pressure, Mojtaba Khamenei was elected the new Supreme Leader, though his legitimacy is contested given his lack of religious credentials and the coercive circumstances of his election.

By the end of Day 7, CENTCOM and CBS News confirmed 43 Iranian vessels damaged or destroyed. At least seven moored warships were lost at two bases. The entrance to an underground naval facility in the Strait of Hormuz was also struck. Significant losses were recorded at Konarak naval base, where three warships sank at the pier and at least eight buildings were destroyed or damaged.

In the 72 hours preceding Day 6, U.S. bombers struck nearly 200 targets inside Iran, including around Tehran. In the final hour of that briefing, B-2 bombers dropped dozens of 2,000-pound penetrator bombs targeting deeply buried ballistic missile launchers.

The initial phase struck roughly 200 Iranian air defense systems, enabling the United States and Israel to establish effective control of Iranian airspace from western Iran to central Tehran within 24 hours. CENTCOM stated that the skies over Iran are now controlled by the United States and Israel.

By Day 7, CENTCOM confirmed strikes on 27 Iranian military bases and missile positions. Targets struck across all 31 provinces included IRGC command-and-control facilities, nuclear-linked underground facilities, ballistic missile sites, anti-ship missile sites, and air defense systems.

CENTCOM confirmed the destruction of the IRGC headquarters in Tehran on Day 2. Day 7 strikes focused heavily on buried ballistic missile launch infrastructure, with B-2 bombers delivering penetrating munitions consistent with the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator profile.

For someone who allegedly always chickens out, President Trump has made some of the boldest moves of any president in U.S. history.

We Are Persian, Not Iranian: The Diaspora’s Response to the Fall of the Islamic Republic

Protesters wave Iranian flags and banners in a demonstration advocating for freedom and rights, highlighting cultural and national identity. Those who despise the regime often call themselves Persian rather than Iranian, and they wave the Persian flag, which was later altered by the regime with Arabic writing added. Once the regime falls, the Persian people will be free to be Persian again and move beyond the memories of the disastrous Iranian regime. Image by Gemini.

In an Instagram video, a Persian protester goes out on the streets of Los Angeles to shout his praise for the U.S. government for killing Ayatollah Khamenei and bringing hope of liberation to the people of Iran. Across the street are American liberals with banners that read “Hands Off Iran.” He confronts them, furious not only that people who never suffered under the regime want it preserved, but also about the flag they are waving.

He holds the original Persian flag, the Lion and Sun, which has become the symbol of the anti-regime movement. The “Hands Off” protesters are waving the Islamic Republic’s flag, which bears Arabic rather than Persian writing. When he points this out, the liberals tell him he is wrong.

Before the revolution, Iran’s flag centered on the Lion and Sun emblem, traceable thousands of years to before the Achaemenid era. Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the flag was changed on July 29, 1980. The Lion and Sun was replaced with a stylized rendering of the Arabic word “Allah,” and the Arabic phrase “Allahu Akbar” was added 22 times in Kufic script along the edges of the green and red bands.

The Persian word for God is “Khoda” or “Parwardigār.” One Iranian commentator noted that Iran is the only country in the world with a flag containing a language other than its own official language. Critics argue the post-revolutionary flag deliberately marginalizes Iran’s pre-Islamic heritage, and its Islamic symbols have raised questions about inclusivity for Iran’s non-Muslim minorities: Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians.

After 1979, the Lion and Sun was strictly banned from public use inside Iran. Yet a 2022 survey found that 46% of respondents inside Iran preferred it as their national flag, compared to only 30% who chose the Islamic Republic’s flag.

Following the U.S.-Israel strikes, an Iranian protester climbed the wall of Iran’s embassy in London to replace the official flag with the Lion and Sun, footage shared by U.S. President Donald Trump. Similar replacements followed at Iranian embassies in Canberra, Stockholm, Oslo, Rome, Munich, Hamburg, and Ljubljana. For many protesters, the flag is less about monarchism than about distancing themselves from the Islamic Republic.

London’s Metropolitan Police imposed conditions on both the Iranian diaspora rallies and the “Hands Off Iran” protests to prevent clashes between the two groups.

Yudval David, a Fox News commentator and member of the Middle East Forum, told The Gateway Pundit that there are four to five million Iranians around the world who fled the Islamic Revolution, and that many prefer to call themselves Persian to separate themselves from the regime.

“We’re seeing them supporting the United States and Israel,” he said, pointing to protests and marches across Europe and the U.S. in support of the strikes. He added that at Israeli embassies around the world, Iranians and Persians are gathering to lay flowers, sing songs, and express support for Israel for helping and rescuing them.

David explained that inside Iran many people have lived in fear under a regime that has maintained power through intimidation and repression, and that the airstrikes have given many a sense of hope.

He also noted the strikes fell during the Jewish holiday of Purim, which he described as commemorating the survival of Persian Jews during the Persian Empire, when leaders attempted to eradicate the Jewish people but the Jews survived and fought back.

David added that Persian Jews are one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, with more than 2,500 years of history in Iran, and that the Islamic Revolution forced most of that community into exile.

“So the fact that all of this is happening right now, during the holiday of Purim, is very, very significant,” he said.

The scene on the streets of Los Angeles captures a divide that runs through the Western response to the fall of the Islamic Republic. On one side, Persians who lived under the regime, who lost family members to it, who fled it, and who have spent decades hoping for its end, are celebrating in the streets waving the flag of their ancestors.

On the other side, Western activists who have never set foot in Iran wave the regime’s Arabic-inscribed flag and demand it be left in peace. The Iranian diaspora has a name for what they are, Persian. What they are defending is not Iran. It is the Islamic Republic, and the Persians who survived it know the difference.

Anti-ICE Thug Receives Instant Karma While Trying Set US Flag on Fire During Protest in Portland (VIDEO)

An Anti-ICE protester in Portland sets himself on fire while trying to burn an American flag. Credit: Not Tina Kotex YouTube screenshot

Unintentional hilarity struck in Portland last night when an idiotic anti-ICE agitator decided to show how much he hated the United States of America.

Independent journalist Not Tina Kotex streamed a large anti-ICE protest in the Rose City, where foul-mouthed agitators dressed up in stupid outfits, waved Pride flags, and cursed out journalists trying to cover the event.

All because they were angry at the Trump Administration for enforcing immigration laws.

What kind of human being spends their Saturday night protesting in the streets for violent illegal aliens, especially when their actions will make absolutely no difference when it comes to policy?

In the midst of the livestream, Not Tina Kotex captured an incident that perfectly encapsulates the complete ignorance of the radical left.

An agitator decided to demonstrate his ‘masculinity’ by setting an American flag on fire but instead showed how bad of aim he had.

The video shows the individual engulfed in flames on his left leg while bystanders marvel at his complete stupidity and carelessness.

A nearby witness could be heard saying, “What an idiot!” as the young agitator struggled to put out the flames on his body.

“So f**king stupid,” he added.

After several seconds, the thug finally managed to put out the fire on his body and extinguish the surrounding ground flames.

WATCH (Turn to the 1:40:56 mark to see the incident)

As TGP readers know, Portland has been a hotbed not only anti-ICE activity, but also serves as the de facto capital of the left-wing terror group Antifa.

Some incidents involving these groups of thugs have ended in tragedy for law-abiding civilians and law enforcement officers. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case last night.

One hopes the incident involving the idiotic would-be flag burner will soon go viral and perhaps appear in GOP ads across the country. These are the type of enemies America is dealing with.
